5G for remote control of factory systems – reality or distant future?

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the need for improved process safety, which can be achieved through autonomous plant control, has increased dramatically. However, when using conventional wireless communication, various technological problems arise due to the delay in the communication channel between the cloud and device controllers.

That’s why Yokogawa Electric Corporation announced that it has signed an agreement with NTT DOCOMO to jointly conduct a Proof of Concept (PoC) test. As part of it, the companies will develop a demonstration environment for cloud-based remote control of water levels in a three-tank control system using AI, compare and evaluate the characteristics of LTE and 5G communication systems.

This test is designed to demonstrate the ease with which companies in the chemical, petroleum and other process industries will be able to retrofit their existing systems using 5G autonomous control with the latest cloud-based AI.

🔹 LLC ОGC SERVICE – implements projects for the automation of various technological processes based on equipment from Yokogawa. And as an official partner, he uses the latest developments of an international corporation in his work.
